Our Mission Statement

The Magic City Blues Society is an all-volunteer nonprofit member association dedicated to the preservation and performance of the blues.

What We Do

The Magic City Blues Society, is an affiliated member of the Blues Foundation, and an all-volunteer organization based in Birmingham, Alabama. Our mission is to:

  • Encourage the performance and preservation of the Blues
  • Support the local blues scene, musicians and venues
  • Promotion and education of the blues, its history and its culture
  • Participate in other charitable civic, literary, or cultural activities within the community consistent with the purposes stated above

Each year, we sponsor and organize several blues performances with national and regional blues artists.

We organize a Battle of the Blues Bands sending the winners to represent the region at the International Blues Competition organized by the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

We host acoustic and electric open jams each month. The jams welcome any level of talent offering mentoring, encouragement, and networking opportunities.

The Blues is very much a part of Southern life and history, deserving recognition as a valid and historical folk art form.

The Magic City Blues Society is a 501 (c) 3 organization founded January 10, 1993.
